Healing Woes
The random and team arenas tend to have a basic strategy that everyone follows: everyone attack the same target, and target the monks first. This puts stress on monk in such a way the only good monk is a monk that can keep themselves alive the longest -- herein enters ye olde "invinci monk" that was nerfed and other like creations. What is the inspiring healer to do? Go incognito!
I hereby present to you all my research and testing of a very efficient creation that I call "the disguised monk."
THE DISGUISED MONK:
R/Mo
12 Healing
16 Expertise (mask + major rune)
Armor: Druid's Armor (+ sup vigor)
Weapon: Sword + Fortitude Enchancement
Offhand: Pvp Healing Ankh
Skill set:
Word of Healing
Healing Breeze
Healing Seed
Dwayna's Kiss
Lightening Reflexes
Whirling Defense
Vengeance
Res Signet
There is a method to this madness: the main class is not a magic class for a very specific reason -- in these arenas, non magic classes (warrior and ranger) are typically attacked last because of their armor being a bit more. When playing the character, about 50% of the time I am never attacked. Of the 50% of the time I am attacked, about 50% of that I am attacked just a couple of times then ignored, 40% of the time I am attacked the very last, and 10% is somewhere in between. Moreover, if you are attacked, it is typically by a mele class, and that is where your expertise comes in.
Because of this newly found freedom of the healer, you are now able to concentrate on healing others. Healing breeze (+8 regen) and Dwayna's Kiss (i've seen heal up to 120) is good against conditions and , and word of healing (about 150) is useful when your allies are under 50% health -- powerful spell for a divine-less monk.
The arenas test true: My teams win about 8 out of every 10 times with this build assuming you start with all 4 team members. And don't worry about energy -- You start with 44 energy and 3 pips -- enough that easily gets me by.

Too bad disguised Monks aren't worth running since they have bad healing power. That, and the deception isn't really lasting.
I'm sure it works in random arena. Then again, what doesn't?
Also, Word bonus only triggers if you're below 50% after the first heal. I guess this is less of an issue, because you don't heal for much normally anyway... Which itself says a lot.

"Too bad disguised Monks aren't worth running since they have bad healing power. That, and the deception isn't really lasting." That isn't true. Again, about half of the time, you will NEVER be attacked the entire match. Not one strike.
"I'm sure it works in random arena. Then again, what doesn't?" Not all things give you at least an 80% victory rate. This one does; time tested and true.

Word triggers if your ally is below 50% and it's a pretty powerful heal. The only thing I have trouble keeping up with (healing wise) is virulence + fragility combos -- something any monk has trouble keeping up with.
I am not pulling these statistics out of my bum; it actually comes from record keeping. If you don't believe me, you could always try it out.

It's random arena... Random arena, apart from being random, which alone makes it stupid, is also full of total noobs.
Virulence + Fragility combos are only a problem to people because they don't bring hex removal. Which of course is asking for it.

Word triggers only if your ally is under 50% after that first heal. Fragility/Virulence is no problem for any Monk with remove hex.
Why not Throw Dirt instead of Lightning Reflexes?
To be honest, I find myself much better off as a straight healer. Could you post your original Mo build?

I play random arenas because it makes it interesting. There's no telling what you're going to get. Moreover, it's quicker than taking the time to form a decent team (i'm not very patient).
If you wanted to protect from fragility, you could eq smite hex onto this buld if you would like. I just enjoy having the 100ish heal from the kiss -- not enough virulence+fragility people out there for me (yet lol).
I decided against throw dirt because you have to run to and blind those attacking you (when it very well could be a ranger and not a warrior). Lightening reflexes is something you can cast when running around and have to worry about going up to someone. These stances block mele and ranged attacks (including wands).

A good monk brings along a few protection prayers to make sure that if they get targetted they can stay alive and keep the enemy's attention while the monk's team kills the enemies one by one.
I took my PvP Monk to the competition arenas for a fun time. Every single round I just put shielding hands and healing breeze on myself and let the enemy keep attacking me while I healed the stray damage on my teammates as they killed the enemies one-by-one.
Worked amazingly until some RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing Mesmer/Warrior Illusionary Weaponmaster came and spoiled the fun. I actually had to try, then.
